On the northern slopes there is alpine land with three glacial valleys – Robanov kot, Matkov kot and the Logarska Valley between them. The Logarska Valley has been known as one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Slovenia. In its end we can find Rinka waterfall that falls into the depths from mountain spring of the Savinja River.

In the Upper Savinja Valley you will certainly find a great deal of natural attractions that will revive your senses of the beauty of nature.

On the northern slopes there is alpine land with three glacial valleys –Robanov kot, Matkov kot and the Logarska Valley between them. The Logarska Valley has been known as one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Slovenia. In its end we can find Rinka waterfall that falls into the depths from mountain spring of the Savinja River. The Savinja River sinks below the surface soon and reappears again at the very end of the valley. We can walk on interesting path along the valley that leads to many attractions and descriptions of natural phenomena.

The other two valleys, Robanov kot and Matkov kot are interesting as well. In Matkov kot you can see a natural phenomenon called ‘Snow Bucket’ – falling water creates a big hole in the snow under walls of mountain Mrzla gora. In Robanov kot the beautiful views on the walls of mount Ojstrica, chain of mountain Dleskovec and friendly alpine dairies with local delicacies are waiting for you. If you want to experience a beautiful mountain trip with marvelous views on the entire valley, then the reef of Mountain Olseva is the perfect place to go. Near the top you will find the famous cave, called Potocka zijalka, which is best known as the refuge of the man from the ice age.

Another place we recommend for hiking is Mountain Raduha, which can be reached through various hiking trails. On Raduha’s slopes friendly mountain huts can be found – one of them is called Grohat and another is Loka. Mount Raduha hides in its underworld one of the biggest surprises of our valley, namely the Snow Cave. We invite you to come and see what is so special about it for yourself. For sure you can’t find something like that in the rest of Slovenia.

Homemade specialities

Typical meat and cheese dishes by traditional recepies.

Let us start with the first culinary masterpiece – dried meat called Savinjski zelodec, trademarked cold cut made of high-class pork and bacon. It is usually served with homemade bread and side dishes such as Mohot (made of cottage cheese and sour cream) and Solčava Cottage Cheese (a spicy cottage cheese with salt and cumin matured in pots).

Also very typical is a buckwheat flat cake (ajdnek) made of three layers of buckwheat dough poured into baking tin and sprinkled with grounded nuts and honey. This procedure is repeated for several times.

We should not forget the simple shepherd’s dish called obrnjenik or ubrnenik, a dish made of roasted wheat, buckwheat or corn flour, over which boiling salty milk is poured, after that sour cream and butter are added. Typical for this area is food made of fresh meat and vegetables grown on a farm.
